Flake, Metallic, or Quartz: Which Floor System Fits Your Space?
June 10, 2026· Spartan Shield Team
All three of our systems ride on the same foundation — ground, repaired, properly prepped concrete. The difference is the finish, and each one has a personality.
Full broadcast flake: the all-rounder
Decorative vinyl flake broadcast to full coverage, locked under a clear topcoat. It hides dust and tire marks, adds natural slip resistance, and comes in dozens of color blends from subtle granite to bold custom mixes.
Best for: garages, laundry rooms, basements — anywhere that works hard but should still look finished. If you’re not sure what you want, you probably want flake.
Metallic: the showpiece
Reflective pigments blended into the coating create waves, swirls, and depth — like polished stone or molten metal. Every pour is genuinely one-of-a-kind. It’s the system people photograph.
Best for: showrooms, man-caves, interior floors, and garages that are really living spaces. Skip it for spaces where heavy texture and grip matter more than looks.
Quartz: the workhorse
Colored quartz aggregate broadcast into the coating builds a dense, uniform, textured surface with best-in-class slip resistance — even wet. It’s the specification-grade option.
Best for: commercial kitchens, shops, wet areas, and any floor that gets punished daily. It’s the one we recommend when the question is “what’s toughest?”
Still deciding?
The right answer usually falls out of three questions: how the space is used, how much grip it needs, and how much personality you want underfoot. We’ll walk your floor, bring samples, and give you a straight answer — the on-site estimate is free.
